Design thinking and Human-Centred Design (HCD) for media innovation 2025

Nukta Africa applied design thinking and human-centred Design (HCD) approaches to deliver fact-checking consultancy services for the International Media Support (IMS) in Tanzania. This participatory and iterative methodology places journalists, editors, and media innovators at the centre of the process to ensure solutions are practical, inclusive, and contextually relevant aiming to strengthen innovation in media practices, particularly in countering misinformation.

Through the HCD approach, Nukta Africa brought together five online media houses and two radio stations to co-create and pilot innovative fact-checking solutions. Two media organisations, Msasa Media and Land Dwellers were selected by judges and they will be funded for one year by IMS to implement and refine their projects, ensuring practical, scalable outcomes.

Impact: The project demonstrates how participatory design approaches can enhance media innovation, improve fact-checking practices, and create sustainable, inclusive solutions in Tanzania’s media ecosystem.
