As part of our initiative to conserve the environment, Nukta Africa was a media partner on a USAID Tuhifadhi Maliasili (“Preserve Natural Resources”) in Tanzania, a project which focused on biodiversity conservation, protection of wildlife corridors, and community empowerment, with a strong emphasis on women and youth. In this project, Nukta Africa provided capacity building to journalists, producers and editors from local media near or along three wildlife corridors of Amani–Nilo, Selous-Udizungwa and Kwakuchinja. This includes training journalists and media practitioners in biodiversity reporting, data-driven storytelling, and environmental conservation. Nukta Africa also supports the use of digital storytelling and media platforms to amplify conservation messages and encourage informed public participation.climate resilience.
We aimed to increase awareness among the public and resolve conflicts between humans and animals along the corridors.
Impacts: The project contributes to sustainable biodiversity conservation by strengthening the role of media in shaping public awareness, supporting community led conservation, and promoting climate-resilient development in Tanzania. More than 200 in-depth stories were produced within a year which contributed largely to the general understanding of biodiversity conservation.
